The guest lecture was conducted by Dr. C.B. Venkata Krishna Prasad, Associate Professor, Dayananda Sagar Institute of Management, for PGDM Marketing students of 19-21 batch of ISBR Business School on the Topic Shifts in Consumer Behaviour Post Pandemic Period online on 16/6/2020. The speaker elaborated on the various models of the buyers behaviour which contains the buyers environment, buyers black box (which has the buyers characters and buyers decision process) and the buyers responses which involves the buying attitudes, the change in preferences the change in purchase behaviour and the relationship between the brand and the company, and then we had seen the brands and consumer’s relationship over the brand and the Brand personality how the consumers choose the brand according to their personalities. The speaker quoted the famous examples of Gucci and Harley Davidson in this case. He also described the changes in consumer want since 1995 till now.
He further explained how the brands adapted the new normal with some examples like Hyundai India and Aditya Birla Health Insurance and the Major strategies of Different Companies including Britannia, ITC, HUL, ITC, Vishal Megamart, Spencers. The lockdown phase of the pandemic has seen several consumer brands, forge opportunistic partnerships with online players like Dunzo, Swiggy, and Flipkart, but this strategy will need to have a long-term mind-set. At the same time, Flipkart, Amazon, Grofers and BigBasket, have also said that consumer buying patterns have gravitated towards affordable brands compared to months earlier, a trend that is unlikely to reverse as the lockdown gradually lifts. Overall, the students understood how the company should adapt themselves for the new normal in their upcoming days to sustain in the market.
