The Government of India, Ministry of Commerce & Industry, in Collaboration with IIC Innoventure, ISBR Business School conducted a program on Intellectual Property Awareness under the KAPILA-NIPAM initiative. Mr. Sai Vaibhav, Examiner of Patents & Design, enlightened us about Intellectual Property. The discussion covered patents, designs, trademarks, and copyright alongside understanding what are with interesting factoids on India’s ranking in patents and the difference between research paper and patents and how the examination of patents take place. Mr. Sai Vaibhav during his session said that an IPR knowledgeable person is a job provider and not a job seeker. He gave an example of Facebook. He said Facebook is named meta because they wanted it to be metaverse. They have made an investment of more than 60 million to do so. He defined the meaning of Intellectual Property. He said that Intellectual Property means the property which is created with intellect such as inventions, books, paintings, songs, symbols, names, images, or designs used in business, etc. He also communicated the importance and significance. He also defined patent that patent is an exclusive right granted in respect of an invention, which may be a product or process that provides a new and inventive way of doing something or offer a new and inventive technical solution to a problem. He communicated about the features of the intellectual properties and who all can apply for IP. He also said that “All IP rights are territorial in nature”.
