Consul General of Italy in Bengaluru

Alfonso Tagliaferri attended the Rome Liceo Classico Pio IX before earning his law degree from the L.U.I.S.S. Guido Carli University in 2004.
Over the course of the next three years, he works as a journalist for two different Italian news agencies—first, AdnKronos in Rome, and later ANSA in Santiago, Chile—as well as for a number of Chilean and Italian publications.
In 2007, he went back to Italy to enrol in a master’s program in international relations at the Società Italiana per l’Organizzazione Internazionale (S.I.O.I. ), Rome.

In 2009, through a public exam, he enters the Italian diplomatic career. After attending the training course at the Diplomatic Institute of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, he serves in the Directorate General for the Americas and in the Directorate General for Legal affairs, diplomatic dispute and international agreements.


In 2011, he is assigned to the Embassy of Italy in Manila, Philippines, where he serves for four years as First Secretary and Deputy Head of Mission. In 2015, he is appointed Consul of Italy in Cape Town, South Africa, with extended consular jurisdiction over the provinces of the Western Cape, Eastern Cape and Northern Cape, as well as the Island of St. Helena (UK). In 2019 he returns to Headquarters in Rome, where he is assigned at the Legislative Office, in the Minister’s cabinet. Between March 2020 and July 2020, he is deployed for a short mission at the Consulate General of Italy in Kolkata, India, where he serves as acting Consul General. During 2021, he undergoes a series of trainings in Rome, including a collaboration with the International Affairs Service of the Senate of the Italian Republic.
On 10 January 2022, he has assumed charge as Consul General at the newly established Consulate General of Italy in Bengaluru, India, with extended consular jurisdiction over the States of Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Union Territory of Puducherry.

Abstract/Snapshot:
On 20th Aug, 2022 the Consul General of Italy was invited to ISBR under the umbrella of Ambassador Lecture Series. The honorable guest addressed the students on cross-cultural learning between India & Italy and ease of doing business in Italy. The event was full of knowledge which nurtured all the international students.

Aarti and tika ceremony was performed by the student volunteers of ISBR to welcome the guest of honour. Further, after meeting Managing Director of ISBR, Mr. Manish Kothari, former proceeded to the auditorium where he received a warm welcome by Dr. C. Manohar, the senior director of ISBR and Dr. Lakshman Kumar.
Dr. Supriya Lamba hosted the event and greeted the guest through her warm words. Later, Mr. Alfonso addressed the student crowd. He briefly discussed about Indo-Italian relationships. The geopolitical relationship between the two countries and their history was well discussed in the event. The guest mentioned the opening of the Italian council in Bangalore, India and incorporating various Italian festivals to promote the Italian cultural background in India. The event became more exciting at the times of question forum. The guest addressed all the questions asked by the students and briefly explained about business gaps and trading system of the two countries and investment system in Italy. The event culminated by a formal vote of thanks by Dr. Supriya Lamba which was followed by honoring Mr. Tagliaferri by handing him the memento as a token of appreciation. The event was indeed an informative session and the students were well satisfied with the knowledgeable insights provided by Mr. Alfonso Tagliaferri.

Learnings from the event: Indo-Italian relationships, Business gaps and trading system of these two countries and investment system in Italy.

Feedback from students: Students learnt about historical relationship between India and Italy and the offerings of Italy to India. The event was full of knowledge which nurtured them. Students were well satisfied with the honourable Guest’s explanation.
