From Diversity to Empathy

Anshu Pratyush

MBA Batch 2016-18

The ISBR Alumni community is a pillar of strength and support for us. They carry the wisdom of the campus and the intelligence of academia. What did they learn? How did their life at ISBR prepare them for the world outside? And what do they have to tell you that will help you not just in your life on campus but beyond it as well? The series ‘Campus to Corporate’ will bring you insights from our alumni on the less-noticed aspects of campus life.

The boy next door from Noida, Anshu Pratyush graduated from ISBR to become an ace recruiter in the Talent Acquisition Team at one of the top CRO companies, Syngene International Limited.

Son of a homemaker mother, who is a social worker running her own NGO, and diplomat father who works at the Indian Embassy in Norway, Anshu made it all the way to Bangalore to enrol for his MBA course at ISBR.

ISBR proved to be the best platform for Anshu Prathyush where he learned the basics of team management while he served as the Vice Captain in the HR Club. “I became adept at multitasking and would coordinate and organize multiple events,” says he. “It was a very fulfilling period of my life.”

It laid the foundation for Anshu’s people skills. Of course, he didn’t know it back then, but it shaped him in his journey to becoming a recruiter.

It’s All About the Right Blend

Being located in Bangalore, ISBR attracts students from all across the nation. The perfect blend of all cultures and faiths makes the place a rich reservoir of cross-cultural learning. “It gave me the opportunity to learn about their culture, attitude, and many other things which helped me grow into a better person,” says Anshu.

“You learn the sensitivities of multiple cultures. You learn the significance of each faith. But most of all, you learn about people and how you should behave with them,” he continues.

“Peer communication, especially if they are from different cultures, is instrumental in developing a sense of empathy,” Anshu says. “You become more considerate because you are drawing from a wealth of knowledge.”

Anshu advises new students to focus on strengthening their cultural ties with the students coming from diverse backgrounds as this has been his main takeaway from ISBR. He is emphatic that it helped him shape his career to what it is today. This sort of exposure has proved to be a boon for him in his career where he has to deal with people from cross-cultural backgrounds. He is able to gauge the prospective recruits better and take snap decisions on the suitability of a particular candidate with consummate ease.
