Rally for Rivers

“This is not n protest. This is not an agitation. This is a campaign to raise awareness that water in our rivers is depleting.

Rally for Rivers is a nationwide public awareness campaign aimed at rejuvenating India’s rivers, started by Sadhguru, Founder, Isha Foundation. On 9th September 2017, the campaign was held on the Palace Grounds, Bangalore. CM Siddaramaiah was the Chief Guest of the event, which was also escorted by other dignitaries including Union Minister Anant Kumar, DVSadanandaGowda, State Major Irrigation Minister M B Patil, etc. Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev presided over the event. The program started with Ms. Usha Uthup’s songs. India’s rivers are experiencing a drastic change. Due to the increased pressure of population and development, our perennial rivers are rapidly becoming seasonal. Many of the smaller rivers have already disappeared. Floods and drought have become frequent as rivers turn disorderly during the monsoon, and disappear as the rains are over. To cope with this devastating situation and to spread awareness about this grave problem, spiritual leader-Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev conceived the idea of Rally for Rivers which is a nationwide awareness campaign to revive our rivers. The campaign proposes ideas to replenish rivers which are to create a kilometer-wide tree cover on riversides and half a kilometer for tributaries. If we do not act now

to reverse the serious decline of these lifelines, the next generation will pay a very heavy price.

The rally took place with the volunteers covering 16 states. Each state and its governing body vowed its support to the cause. A large number of students along with ISBR students had come to attend the rally. The dignitaries addressed the students and asked them to vow and join hands for this noble cause and protect our most crucial natural resources i.e. water. The receding water level of the river has become a matter of great concern and if we do not take some serious steps right now, our future generation is going to pay heavy prices for our mistakes.
